Welcome to the new game, same as the last game.
Sunderland RCA welcomed Park View AFC to Meadow Park for the second successive match, after the scheduled fixture against Esh Winning the weekend before last was abandoned at half-time.
This time out the visitors left with the victory on a heavily weather affected evening via two late goals from substitutes Zac Boddy and Shae Pye.
The encounter had few chances as both sides struggled to get to grip with the conditions as the match just about went ahead following two pitch inspections.
Mark Forrest made two changes from the abandoned fixture in Durham, with Kieran Charlton and Jake Fowler returning to the starting 11 in place of Max Monaghan and Callum Guy.
RCA had the benefit of the wind in the first half, but the ball flew so quickly that it became difficult for players to judge the weight of pass.
When the ball wasn’t flying in the air, moving constantly with no indication of where it would land, it was being contested in constant fifty fifty challenges.
The closest RCA came in the first period was via several scrambles and a blocked shot from skipper Christopher Thompson.
Archie Dodds tried his luck from distance with a free-kick, but it sailed over the opposition crossbar.
After the break, Park View looked to take advantage of the wind being in their favour.
Despite being against the weather, RCA managed to get the ball down well and play some good football.
However, chances remained hard to come by.
The game was scrappy and as it entered the final stages Park View found a breakthrough.
Following a set-piece the ball fell kindly in the box for what felt like the first time all night and Boddy was able to turn sharply and fire into the bottom corner.
The hosts pushed but to no avail as Stephen Siyanbola flicked on to Pye who struck sweetly beyond Karl Dryden to seal the victory when the clock turned 90.
RCA are at home again this Saturday as we welcome Boldon CA to Meadow Park with the hopes of returning to winning ways.
