Sunderland RCA manager Mark Forrest gave his take on Sunderland RCA’s third successive league win on Saturday against high-flying FC Hartlepool.
Aiden Stanton gave RCA the lead after 21 minutes before Archie Dodds made it two in first half stoppage time. A Tom Gavin penalty 15 minutes from time proved to be just a consolation for the visitors.
Forrest said:
“Really pleased with the three points. To win three games on the bounce is really pleasing and shows the capabilities of the squad we have built. I was especially pleased with the way the lads adapted to a change in formation, we were missing two centre halves so we had to ask others to play a slightly different position and I think they adapted well and defended the box with a desire.
“I felt like we controlled the first half and whilst they had the majority of the ball in the second half, I never felt like we would concede, until a very debatable penalty added some late pressure but the lads saw the game out well.
“We as a squad are still getting used to each other, building an identity. We have one or two players who were with us last year and I hope to see us continue to get stronger as the season progresses. It is important to remember it is only one game and full focus now should go to Prudhoe next week.”
As the gaffer mentioned, RCA are at home once again on Saturday 1st November to welcome Prudhoe YC Seniors in the reverse of the season’s opening fixture.
